Microsoft: Automatic solution for 0x80070643 update error no longer planned

For several months now, a Windows update of the Windows Recovery environment has been failing for many users with the error code 0x80070643. Microsoft has now announced that the company is no longer working on an automated solution.
When attempting to install an update for Bitlocker, the file system encryption of Windows, in the Windows Recovery environment, an error often occurs that leads to the installation attempt being aborted with the error message "0x80070643", which is not very meaningful. The error has existed since January. Since then, Microsoft has simply been unable to get to grips with it.
Update error: Microsoft gives up
In the Windows Release Health notes, the company has now announced that it is throwing in the towel: "Automatic resolution of this issue will not be available with future Windows updates," it writes there. The developers add: "Manual steps are required for the update installation to fully work on devices affected by this bug".
For those affected, the only option left is to try the workarounds known so far. In January, Microsoft suggested increasing the size of the recovery partition for the affected operating systems Windows 11 21H2, Windows 10 22H2 and 21H2 as well as Windows Server 2022 - at least 250 MB of free space is required. Readers reported that it worked after several attempts. Others were able to help themselves by reinstalling Windows 10 with the installer. Microsoft has also published Powershell scripts to help with this.
